![]() The peaks, shape, and time phasing (when the peaks occur in relation to absolute time and to each other) of these raw waveforms are the most accurate of any firearm silencer testing publicly available. The data acquisition rate used in all PEW Science testing is 1.0 MS/s (1 MHz). The waveforms are not averaged, decimated, or filtered. Real sound pressure histories from a 5-shot test acquired with PEW-SOFT™ are shown below. State-of-the-art firearm sound signature testing and research conducted by PEW Science is supported by readers like you. As stated in Section 6.7.1, the data acquired 0.15 m (6 in) right of the shooter’s ear is only available to membership supporters of PEW Science and the Silencer Sound Standard. The data acquired 1.0 m (39.4 in) left of the muzzle is available for viewing to all. 6.7.2 Obsidian 45 Sound Signature Test Results (Short Configuration)Ī summary of the principal Silencer Sound Standard performance metrics of the Obsidian 45 in its short configuration is shown in Table 2. Ammunition consistency can play a role in the determination of FRP, however, the close examination of measured pressure and impulse waveforms typically excludes ammunition from the possible factors influencing true FRP, due to the relative consistency of most high quality factory ammunition. This is one of the reasons why The Silencer Sound Standard requires examining multiple sound signature metrics. The FRP phenomenon cannot always be shown by viewing only the peak sound pressure. PEW Science note: First-round sound signatures always differ from subsequent shots, as the atmosphere within the silencer changes. The overall shape of the impulse waveforms measured at the muzzle, from shot-to-shot, are extremely consistent, highlighting the silencer’s overall sound performance consistency at the muzzle after the FRP, as well as the relative consistency of the tested semiautomatic firearm configuration. Figure 4a also shows FRP in the impulse regime. The measured pressure regime first-round-pop (FRP) is evident when comparing Shot 1 (Fig 1) to Shot 2 (Fig 3b). The Obsidian 45 can be obtained from Silencer Shop. The Obsidian 45 can also use the 9mm end-cap from the Obsidian 9 silencer. The silencer is user-serviceable and weighs 12.8 ounces or 10.7 ounces in the long or short configurations, respectively. The main tube is constructed of aluminum. The silencer’s mount section and baffles are constructed of 17-4PH stainless steel. Other mounts are available, including fixed mounts and an internal 3-lug mount module. The silencer mounts to the host firearm with an internal inertial decoupling piston assembly available in multiple standard thread pitches. The length in the long configuration is 8.6 inches and the length in the short configuration is 6.7 inches. It has a 1.37-inch diameter and is modular, in that it can be configured in the user’s choice of two lengths. It is a 45 caliber centerfire pistol silencer, intended to suppress many cartridges with projectiles appropriately sized to travel through the bore, including. The Obsidian 45 is manufactured by Rugged Suppressors. They make nice stuff.Rugged Suppressors Obsidian 45 on the HK P30L Full-Size Semiautomatic Pistol Having said all of this ? Would I buy another Rugged suppressor ? Yes. This whole scenario happened to me (granted, my fault) and Rugged were REALLY good about repairing at no charge and turning it around lightning fast.īut.crown the end cap and fix the locking lugs and none of that would be necessary. When the tube is damaged, you can't remove the end cap and you have to send the whole works back to Rugged for repair. The first firing will launch the can downrange and it will (most certainly) land at a 45 degree angle and damage the front section of the can's tube. The second is the three lug adaptor does not have positive stops on it, such that it is possible to put the can on the weapon and twist the three lug adaptor past the locking lugs, leaving the can just hanging on the little bit of barrel adaptor without engaging the locking lugs. The first is that the front end cap should be crowned to protect the front end of the tube. However, there are two things I don't like about it and I have pointed them out to Rugged (with no response). I have an Obsidian 45 and I really do like it.
